EMILY EDDY
owner & strategy, Either/Or
What’s the first thing you think about when deciding what to wear in the morning?
I'm a function-first person, so I think about what I need to accomplish on a given day and then I build around that. I have tweens/teens, so the line of questioning lately is, "Am I comfortable? Do I look cool? Will I embarrass my children?" In that order.

"Getting dressed has always been about self-expression for me, even if what I'm expressing isn't particularly loud."
I'm very aware of how what I put on communicates something about me as a person, and I want that message to be spot on. I love a clean/classic aesthetic, but I can't handle being too polished — I always have to have one unexpected or tattered item on!
my Current go-to shoe?
The Isla in Black. I love how minimal it is but the lace up makes it really special. Also, Mary Janes forever!
A few of my favorite things...
Clockwise from top:
1// a oxalis plant that unexpectedly grew in my garden from some compost I purchased. I often cultivate it and gift to friends
2// my favorite Japanese ceramic and a tape cassette necklace given to my by Heatherette designer Richie Rich in the early aughts. In a random meeting he encouraged me to become a designer and gave me this.
3// lilac season in my backyard is the best
4// my favorite fancy soda from Uwajimaya, our local Japanese grocery
5// I have a knick knack collecting problem
6// Murakami's "A Wild Sheep Chase". I always come back to it when I want to be transported
7// "The Harder They Come" soundtrack by Jimmy Cliff. This was on heavy rotation growing up — this is my dad's vinyl. It's perfect cleaning day music
